The open science movement indicates the need to reconfigure the traditional structures and models of scientific communication, with emphasis on scientific journals. This panel focuses on the new agendas and controversies surrounding this issue, particularly with regard to infrastructures, evaluation systems, and business models of scientific communication and how they have had repercussions on the ways of doing science.

The open science movement indicates the need to reconfigure the traditional structures and models of scientific communication, with emphasis on scientific journals. This panel focuses on the new agendas and controversies surrounding this issue, particularly with regard to infrastructures, evaluation systems, and business models of scientific communication and how they have had repercussions on the ways of doing science.
The panel will discuss the following topics:
Main contemporary debates around the evaluation of scientific research in the light of the agendas raised by open science, especially regarding the need for new positions by evaluation institutions and funding agencies to contemplate open science in evaluation processes;
How evaluation and indexing policies have shaped journal internationalization practices and in what ways Open Science has been challenging this paradigm;
Proposition and debate on metrics and indicators for the diagnosis and analysis of socioeconomic sustainability of Brazilian open access journals.
The role of the platformization process in the emerging business models of scientific communication and its influence on the development of scientific research.

About Sarita Albagli
Researcher at the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT). Professor of the Graduate Program in Information Science – PPGCI/IBICT-UFRJ. Coordinator of the Laboratório de Pesquisa em Ciência Aberta e Inovação Cidadã (CindaLab). Scientific Coordinator of Civis Citizen Science Platform.
About Tatiane Pacanaro Trinca
PhD student in Science at the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict) and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Currently in a research internship at the Center Population et Développement associated with Université Paris-Cité and at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD/France). Since 2008 she has been working as an Analyst in Science and Technology at CAPES, with planning and management of Public Policies in Education, working, since 2019, on the CAPES Portal de Periódicos.
About Andréa Gonçalves
PhD student in Information Science at IBICT/UFRJ. Master in Library Science from UNIRIO, postgraduate degree in Information Technology from New York University and Bachelor in Library Science and Documentation from USP. She was editor-in-chief of the Mosaico journal, from CPDOC / FGV, and member of the Deliberative Council of the Associação Brasileira de Editores Científicos (ABEC). She is currently an Account Development Manager at Springer Nature Publishing.
About André Appel
PhD (2019) and Master (2014) in Information Science from the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (PPGCI-Ibict/UFRJ). Bachelor (2010) in Information Management from the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR). He works as an Adjunct Professor at the Universidade Federal de Rondônia (Unir) and as a Researcher at Ibict in Brasília.
About Miguel Papi
Master in Information Science from IBICT – UFRJ (2016), where he is currently pursuing his PhD. He holds a degree in Social Communication – Advertising from the School of Communication (ECO). Partner of Letra e Imagem Editora e Produções Ltda. He was executive editor of the Icict / Fiocruz portal Proqualis between 2012 and 2017. He worked on the implementation of SEER and other editorial production services in scientific journals for several scientific institutions.
About Simone Weitzel
Professor of the Professional Master’s Course in Library Science at the Graduate Program in Library Science (PPGB) at the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) – PROPAP. She is a Full Professor at UNIRIO and leader of the Research Group Spaces and Librarian Practices where she conducts research on collection development and scholarly communication.
