Bori Agency: Science in the press

Making science accessible to people outside academia is fundamental in the context of Open Science – and one of the ways is through the press via the Agência Bori. In this webinar, Bori's content manager Natália Flores talks about the importance of disclosing scientific studies to the press and explains how to become a partner journal in this process. Editors of partner journals and researchers tell their experiences by disseminating research via Bori.

About

Making science reach Brazilian society is fundamental nowadays – and it has been a challenge for universities and cientists in recent years. The Bori Agency was created in 2020 precisely to bridge this gap between scientists and the population, through the press. It disseminates scientific research by Brazilian scientists published in journals published in Brazil and abroad and operates through partnerships with scientific journals. Today, Bori monitors research in the process of being published by more than 150 journals from SciELO and the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC), selecting articles of potential interest to the press, based on its curatorship criteria. More than 2,600 journalists from all types of communication vehicles and from different regions of Brazil receive daily explanatory texts from Bori, replicating this content or building authorial guidelines based on them. In this webinar, Agência Bori’s content manager explains how this partnership with newspapers works and brings cases of the impact of the dissemination of studies by the agency in a dialogue with editors of partner journals and researchers who have already published research via Bori.
