Atualmente \u00e9 Professor Em\u00e9rito e Colaborador Senior do Instituto de Qu\u00edmica (IQ) da USP. Foi Chefe do Departamento de Bioqu\u00edmica do IQ-USP (1985-1989, 1993-1995); Coordenador do Curso de Ci\u00eancias Moleculares, USP (1990 &#8211; 1994); Pr\u00f3-Reitor de Pesquisa da USP (1997-2001); Diretor do IQ-USP (2002- 2006); Presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Bioqu\u00edmica e Biologia Molecular (1993-1995); Vice-Presidente da Academia Brasileira de Ci\u00eancias (2007-2015); Vice-Presidente do <em>International Council for Science<\/em> (2005-2008); Presidente da <em>InterAmerican Network of Academies of Science<\/em> (2004 -2010); Presidente do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient\u00edfico e Tecnol\u00f3gico, CNPq (2015 -2016). Ocupou a Diretoria da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Butantan (2009-2011). Foi Assessor T\u00e9cnico do Gabinete da Diretoria Cient\u00edfica da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o de Amparo \u00e0 Pesquisa do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo (Fapesp) de 2011 a 2015 e Coordenador Adjunto da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o entre 2017 e 2020. Reconhecendo a import\u00e2ncia do SciELO desde a sua cria\u00e7\u00e3o, conhecendo os her\u00f3is que criaram e mant\u00e9m esta iniciativa \u00fanica de integra\u00e7\u00e3o global da ci\u00eancia dos pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento, apoiou os Programas apresentados pelo SciELO na Fapesp. \u00a0Tem experi\u00eancia na \u00e1rea de Bioqu\u00edmica, com \u00eanfase em F\u00edsico-Qu\u00edmica Org\u00e2nica, estudando Sistemas Biomim\u00e9ticos, em particular estrutura de micelas e ves\u00edculas, catalise micelar e enzim\u00e1tica. Formou 15 Mestres e 21 Doutores.
