The Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC) was formed to discuss and address issues of diversity and inclusion within our industry. Since 2017 more than 100 organizations have adopted its joint statement of principles. The organization also provides training resources, best practices, toolkits, and documentation for the scholarly communications community. Attendees will learn about C4DISC\u2019s mission, how to get involved in the organization and what resources are currently in development by C4DISC working groups. An overview of the current resources available on the C4DISC website will be reviewed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Volunteers that helped develop the Toolkits for Equity and\u00a0 Inclusive Language and Image Guidelines will provide an overview of those resources and tips for how you can use them in your organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, volunteers from the Workplace Equity Project working group will discuss the past and current survey that aims to measure personal experiences of diversity, equity, and inclusion in scholarly publishing workplaces. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Melanie Dolechek is the Executive Director of the Society for Scholarly Publishing. She has been active in scholarly publishing since 2006, previously serving as the Director of Publishing and Marketing of Allen Press. She is the Convener for the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communication and past treasurer of the Kansas City Society of Association Executives. Chhavi Chauhan works as Director for Scientific Outreach at the American Society for Investigative Pathology and Director of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program at the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics. She is one of the leaders of the Women in AI Ethics Collective and an expert at the AI Policy Exchange. She is a biomedical researcher, expert scholarly communicator, and a sought after mentor in the fields of scientific research, scholarly publishing, and AI Ethics, especially for women and minorities. She is a thought leader, a renowned international speaker, and a strong advocate for equitable and accessible healthcare. She sits at the intersection of scientific research, scholarly communications, and AI Ethics in Healthcare. Her vision is to provide equitable personalized healthcare to all, beyond geographies, and despite socioeconomic disparities.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Simone Taylor<\/h3>

From a background in scientific research, Simone started her publishing career out at Elsevier, and via the National Physical Laboratory, Wiley, and AIP Publishing, has developed considerable international experience in publishing texts to meet the needs of researchers, educators and professionals in engineering and the physical sciences. Simone has a passion for helping authors maintain an archivable record of their work in the scientific literature and is a keen advocate for improving global accessibility to published works. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Manchester, UK.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Patty Baskin, MS<\/h3>

Patricia K (Patty) Baskin, (MS in Genetics, UC Berkeley; Graduate Technical Writing & Editing Certificate, University of Washington) is Executive Editor of the five Neurology\u00ae journals published by the American Academy of Neurology. Patty worked in genetics research before assuming positions of Executive Managing Editor, Manager of Program Operations, and Managing Editor at various bioscience journals. She joined Neurology\u00ae in 2007 and is responsible for launching four spin-off journals. She is past president of CSE and former EIC of CSE\u2019s Science Editor. She has taught in CSE short courses on publication management and ethics, established editors\u2019 courses in Brazil and South Korea, and has presented at numerous publication meetings in her areas of expertise, including publication ethics and misconduct, authorship, conflict of interest, open access, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Damita Snow, CAE<\/h3>

Damita Snow serves as the senior manager for publishing technologies and publications, DEIA specialist at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She serves on ASCE\u2019s Communications, Cooperation, and Culture Committee and is the immediate past chair of ASCE\u2019s Staff Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Council, a group that she founded and developed within ASCE. She also co-chaired the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Committee of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and is a current SSP Board Member. Snow also serves on the Education Committee and is an EXCEL awards judge for Association, Media and Publishing (AM&P) Network Associations Council and recently concluded her term on their advisory board. Snow also co-chaired the Publications Special Interest Group for Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE) and is a past Annual Meeting Committee member. Currently, she is a Gold Circle Awards judge and member of the Black Associations Executives steering committee and Research Foundation Member for the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
