A critical element of research are the data used to determine the findings published in an article. These data along with the methods and software used, are valuable contributions to the scientific record. The broad research community has been working to improve the description, preservation and sharing of these digital objects so that they can be indexed, associated with the paper and creators, and potentially reused in future research. The FAIR Guiding Principles, published in 2016, initiated a moment of convergence across different disciplines motivating the development of assessment methods for researchers to use in order to ensure their data are FAIR – findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. The many data assessment methods were mostly unique to their community and not comparable across communities. As the number of assessment methods increased, members of the RDA felt it necessary to establish a \u201cmaturity model\u201d that could be used to guide new assessment methods as well as compare current methods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this lecture, co-chairs Shelley Stall and Edit Herczog, will give a brief history of the FAIR Data Maturity Model Working Group activities and provide an overview of the model elements.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Shelley Stall<\/h3>

Shelley Stall is the Vice President for the American Geophysical Union\u2019s (AGU) Open Science Leadership Program. She, and the team, work with AGU\u2019s members, their organizations, and the broader research community to improve data and digital object practices with the ultimate goal of elevating how research data and software are managed, valued, and made as open as possible.<\/p>

The work of the Open Science Leadership team is to remove barriers towards making science more reproducible and transparent. We have compiled and developed resources that helps our broad community move towards science practices that are more open and make data and software more accessible and interoperable, supporting complex, innovative, and multi-national challenges. AGU partners with ESIP on the Open Science and Data Help Desk that is held at geoscience (and related) meetings worldwide including AGUs and the European Geosciences Union General Assembly. We work with the publishing community and supporting service providers to ensure proper attribution and credit for data and software citations that support published research articles. Shelley is a member of the Board on Research Data and Information of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and an ex-officio member of the Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Scholarship. She is the co-chair of the Research Data Alliance Organizational Assembly, and co-chair for the working groups focused on the FAIR Data Maturity Model, Complex Citations, and discipline-specific work in the Earth Space and Environmental Sciences Interest Group. <\/p><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Edit Herczog<\/h3>

ORCID:<\/b> 0000-0002-2930-5401<\/a><\/span>

Edit is Director General of the strategic foresight company, Vision & Values situated in Brussels. She is Board member of the Research Data Alliance Europe and is co-chair of the RDA FAIR Data Maturity Model Working Group. She is Vice-Chair of the Administrative Board of the European Union\u2019s Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER). She is a Board member at the Transatlantic Policy Network (TPN) and is Senior EU Liaison Adviser for G\u00c9ANT.<\/p>

Prior to establishing her company, she served two consecutive terms in the European Parliament as an Member (MEP) (2004-2014). She served on Committees regarding the budget, budgetary discharge, internal market, industry, research, space and energy policy. She also served on the governance of several parliamentary forums. Prior, she was a member of the Hungarian Parliament in which role she was delegate to the Council of Europe. Before her political engagement, she worked for the private sector as regional sales and technical manager for a specialty chemicals company, National Starch & Chemical (part of Unilever and later ICI).<\/p>

She has an MSc in food conservation engineering. She was Research Fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Teaching Assistant at the University of Horticulture. Edit holds a Certificate of Company Direction for strategic marketing, financial management and company law from the Institute of Directors.<\/p><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
