Preprints promote the rapid and open sharing of research, typically prior to formal peer review. However, they also carry another benefit: they enable peer review to proceed in new and more productive ways. Open feedback and review of preprints can promote more rigorous and informative evaluation that involves broader participation from the scholarly community. In this session, we will explore different approaches to public feedback on preprints and a vision for a future in which they change the structure of scientific communication to promote collaboration at earlier stages in the research cycle.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Jessica Polka, PhD serves as Executive Director of ASAPbio, a researcher-driven nonprofit organization working to promote innovation and transparency in life sciences publishing in areas such as preprinting and open peer review. Prior to this, she performed postdoctoral research in the department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School following a PhD in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from UCSF. Jessica is also a Plan S Ambassador, an affiliate of the Knowledge Futures Group, and a steering committee member of Rescuing Biomedical Research.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Eucidio is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Educa\u00e7\u00e3o em Revista<\/i>\u00a0and head of the Department of School Administration at UFMG. He works with training students and researchers to understand the impacts of technologies, such as artificial intelligence, on primary and secondary education. He was director of innovation and methodologies, he is coordinator of the Open University of Brazil system at UFMG. Eucidio received his PhD in Education from UFMG.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Alexandra is the Senior Program Coordinator for Postbaccalaureate Training at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. She works to prepare students for a graduate school and a career in research. Alexandra received her PhD in Cell Biology from MIT where she worked in the laboratory of Iain Cheeseman.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Kleber Neves has a bachelor\u2019s degree in biomedical sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeir and a PhD in Neurosciences from the same institution. He did research on the evolution of the nervous system and of cognition. He was then part of the coordinating team of the Brazilian Reproducibility Initiative, working with metascience, biostatistics, reproducibility and scientometrics. He is part of the Board of Directors of ASAPBio. At Serrapilheira, he works as manager in the Science Program, taking care of the program\u2019s impact evaluation and open science activities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Vanessa is Community Manager at PREreview. She works to support and empower communities of researchers, particularly those at early stages of their career and historically excluded to conduct socially conscious preprint peer review. She studied her undergraduate in European Languages and Business Management before going onto study her Master\u2019s in Applied and Professional Ethics. Openness, accessibility, and equity have always been central to Vanessa\u2019s work. Prior to PREreview she began her career in academia working at international development organization INASP with a focus on improving access to scholarly information and research in developing countries before supporting publishers around the world as Community Engagement Manager at Crossref.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
