The speakers - Dr. Joan Marsh and Dr. Ana Heredia - will address from the importance of gender in scientific research, to the asymmetries between authors, areas, in editorial boards of journals and peer review, and also how the promotion of gender equity contributes to inclusion, diversity, quality and innovation in science. Initiatives aimed at promoting gender equity and within the scope of editors associations, journals, as well as intersectoral actions in this area will be presented.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This online event is one of the SciELO 25 Years Seminars<\/span><\/a>, part of the activities celebrating 25 Years of the SciELO Program in 2023. The speakers will be Dr. Joan Marsh, Associate Editor of The Lancet Psychiatry, and Dr. Ana Heredia, Independent Consultant and member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and the Coalition for Diversity & Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC). They will address the importance of gender in scientific research, in areas such as biology and medicine, the gender asymmetries between authors, areas, in editorial boards of scientific journals and in peer review, bringing examples of how the promotion of gender equity contributes to inclusion, diversity, quality and innovation in science. Dr. Leila Posenato Garcia is a Researcher at the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) and Associate Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Occupational Health (RBSO). She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Federal University of Pelotas, is a member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC-Brasil), of the Gender Policy Committee of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), of the Editorial Committee of the journal Gaceta Sanitaria (Spain) and the Forum of Journal Editors from the Brazilian Association of Public Health (ABRASCO). She was an alternate member representing the health area on the Advisory Committee of the SciELO Brazil Collection.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr Joan Marsh is the Deputy Editor of The Lancet Psychiatry, having joined the Lancet group in November 2013. She read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, then completed a PhD in molecular biology. She worked as an editor with The Ciba\/Novartis Foundation in London, and with John Wiley & Sons, she also worked for Hong Kong University and for Excerpta Medica. She was on the Council of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE) for 12 years, including six as President. She is now Co-chair of its Gender Policy Committee, and also an Associate Editor for the Association\u2019s journal, European Science Editing.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Ana Heredia is a biologist, holds a Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences and Neurosciences from the Universit\u00e9 Paul Sabatier and a PhD in Sciences from the Universit\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles in the area of Behavioral Ecology. She worked for 10 years with scientific information at Elsevier, where she was also responsible for the journals department in Brazil, was Director for Latin America at ORCID and is currently an independent consultant, a member of the DEI committee of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and a member of the Coalition for Diversity & Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
